Youth members are supported by a large community of adults in every aspect of our work.

Volunteer

SBYC welcomes adult volunteers who are interested in furthering our mission and supporting our youth members. Volunteers support SBYC with everything from fundraising, to communications, to canvassing with youth members, to mentorship. If you are interested in joining our volunteer team, please email us at volunteer[at]youthchangemakers[dot]org.

We are proud to be supported by adult community members who believe in our mission and in the power of young people. With the rise of anti-democratic and oppressive norms and legislation, now is a crucial time to invest in our youth and develop leaders who are prepared to stand confidently in their values to meet the challenges of the coming years. Community contributions empower us to fund this work sustainably, and to continue to offer 100% free programming and support for youth of all class backgrounds in the South Bay. Your dollars go directly to our in house training design and curriculum development, basic supplies (including food and space) for our programs, non-partisan civic and voter engagement projects, stipends and scholarships for our youth, and issue-based local campaign work.

  • While SBYC focuses on the Asian American experience, our organization is open to anybody who supports our mission and vision! We have some members who are not Asian American and meaningfully involve themselves with our work.

  • Ultimately, this money invests in our youth members and building Asian American youth power for our community. Our programs are free for all youth, which especially impacts our working class youth who face additional barriers to access opportunities like this one.

-Our summer organizing institute, where youth learn about social justice topics and how to take action for the very first time

-The development of in house tailored curriculum for our youth members on Asian American histories of the Bay Area, identity development and wellness, organizing campaign strategy and research, and specialized trainings

-Youth stipends to compensate our youth leaders and members for their time running our research project and programs

-Transportation, nourishing food, and space rentals for program workshops, socials, and retreats

-Hiring post-highschool youth as fellows and interns to continue their education and training in social justice as they transition out of high school

  • Yes! SBYC is a fiscally sponsored project with 501(c)(3) status. If you donate, you will receive an email that can be used for tax deductions.

  • Many smaller nonprofits choose a fiscal sponsorship model so that we can get support with overhead infrastructure like payroll, human resources, banking, legal compliance, and employee benefits administration, sharing that infrastructure across multiple small non profits instead of each one re-inventing the wheel! Our fiscal sponsor is the Chinese Progressive Association, a longstanding and respected Bay Area non profit that helps us coordinate those forms of infrastructure. When we receive funding, it is formally addressed to our fiscal sponsor (the Chinese Progressive Association) for processing through our bank, but the money always goes directly to us!

  • Yes! Since we are fiscally sponsored by a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, contributions are tax deductible (see above). For matching programs, the donation should go towards “Chinese Progressive Association” (our fiscal sponsor) with a note that it is earmarked for “South Bay Youth Changemakers.”

  • No, AB Charities is a 501(c)(3) that has no party affiliation.

  • No, as a non-profit organization that has 501(c)(3) status, we do not engage in partisan political activities.

  • We welcome checks! In fact, for larger amounts (over $250), please consider writing a check so we can make the most of your contribution by avoiding online processing fees! If you would like to donate via check:
